Sharmila Institute of Medicinal Products Research Academy (SIMPRA) was established by Shri R.J.A.Raj, Chairman, in the year 1995. SIMPRA is located in Thanjavur. It is a research organization duly registered under charitable trust act (329/04 dt. 07.05.2004). It promotes research activity. It caters to the demands of the research scholars from different educational and research institutions. Industries utilize the laboratory and library facilities for confirming suitable testing methods.

Considering the significance of the noble cause for the human society, BARD (Bharathidasan University), has come forward to collaborate with SIMPRA to utilize and exchange research knowledge, expertise, laboratory facility, library facility and other infrastructure facilities to the process of scientific validation in the field of Drug Discovery and Development. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Bharathidasan University, Trichy on 5th December 2007.

In addition, Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi, has recognized SIMPRA as a SIRO Institution.
